WI Chapter ASID Member featured in the Journal Sentinel

For most of us, a cup of freshly brewed coffee and a copy of the Journal Sentinel make up for a Sunday morning routine. The Sunday issue of the daily newspaper covers variety of local topics, interior design, culinary and home improvement included. If you read carefully, you might have noticed that in the April 19th, 2009 issue, one of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) WI Chapter members was featured in the Entree section.
Aga Artka, Allied Member ASID, Communication Committee Volunteer and recently awarded The Volunteer of the Year 2008/2009, was thrilled when the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel expressed interest in showcasing her home and ultimately one of her first interior design projects. Aga and her husband Brian have lived in this house for three years and are proud of the way it presents itself. Nearly all the friends and family members who visited described it as cozy, cute and comfortable. Aga, with Brian’s involvement, has used paint as the main element to express the emotion and the function of each space. Having always been fascinated by the physiological and psychological impact of color on humans, as well as being a huge fan of Josef Alberts and his unique approach to color, Aga has taken all her knowledge and ideas and applied it in the design of her and her husband’s first home.
Since January of 2009, Aga is successfully making a difference in the Milwaukee community by providing interior design services to residential as well as small commercial and hospitality customers who want to improve their living and/or working standards by implementing Aga’s functional and sustainable design solutions. Aga is the sole designers and owners of Aga Artka Interior Design LLC.

Dr. Suzanne Scott honored with the Keith Hooks Volunteer Excellence Award

Suzanne Scott, IDEC, ASID, Ph.D., has been honored with the Keith Hooks Volunteer Excellence Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Council for Interior Design Accreditation.
Suzanne Scott has been involved with CIDA leadership in a variety of capacities for nearly 20 years. Most recently, Suzanne chaired the CIDA Standards Committee, leading the three-year project to revise accreditation standards. In the early 90's, she served two terms on the (formerly FIDER) Research Committee, conducting significant research about the future of interior design. Suzanne is currently serving her first term as accredited program representative on CIDA's Accreditation Commission.
CIDA established the Keith Hooks Volunteer Excellence Award as a legacy to former Director Keith Hooks whose 20+ years of volunteer leadership immeasurably impacted thousands of students in CIDA-accredited programs. "Suzanne Scott's many contributions to CIDA and quality interior design education are substantial and worthy of this highest honor," states, Cary Johnson, CIDA Board Chair. "She has enriched our profession through her engagement and the Board is very pleased to recognize her achievements with this award."
Over 130 interior design educators and practitioners currently volunteer for CIDA. Only one Keith Hooks Volunteer Excellence Award is presented annually.

Sandy Gordon, ASID (Sandy Gordon Interiors) and Brenda Brady, ASID (Brenda Brady Design) have been selected to be speakers on the ASID Distinguished Speakers Series. The ASID Distinguished Speakers Series is an interior design speaker’s bureau tailored specifically for ASID chapter- sponsored educational programs.
The course they are presenting is “Community Approach to Programming”. Brenda and Sandy are in a position to share their expertise of programming from their business acumen and past project experiences accumulated over the past 25 years.
They have experienced the design/build community evolve unlike the programming phase which has remained stagnant. Brenda and Sandy discuss the concept of community programming and share case studies of why this method is a great compliment to the updated design/build concept. They focus on how interior designers can influence the community approach and structure of programming. The intent is to introduce a new programming approach that creates a meaningful design and reduces costs and errors.
Sandy and Brenda have been invited to share their expertise as featured speakers at the Total Facility Management conference (TFM) in 2008. They are excited to share their expertise with more groups locally and nationwide. The course is approved for one or two hours of CEU credits. Those who are intrigued about this topic can contact Brenda and Sandy to schedule a lunch’n’learn in your office or a class in your local geographical region. This is ideal for the office that is working on LEED projects and Design/Build environments or the solo entrepreneurs that want to integrate multiple disciplines into their project scope.

Congratulations are in order for Suzanne Scott, ASID! The Chancellors Hilldale Award for Excellence in Teaching is the highest teaching honor given on the University of Wisconsin Madison campus for academic staff and only one is given each year. The award is based on a nomination package that included recommendations from faculty and students. Below are quotes from various people who wrote recommendation letters on her behalf as well as information gleaned from conversations with these individuals. Next time you see these individuals please thank them for taking the time to write the recommendation letters!
