Matthew Kerr, ASID





  • What area(s) of design do you specialize in?
  • Work at a rather large firm I get to work on many different market types, municipal, health care, educational, corporate office, club and recreation, retail, multi-family residential…the list goes on but those are the big ones. My personal specialization is conceptual development and visualization of interior spaces.
  • What is your design background/education?
  • I graduated from UWSP in 2000 with a Bachelors of Arts in Interior Architecture and a minor in Art. I earned my State license in 2003.
  • How did you get started in the design field?
  • I knew I wanted to design space since I was 12 years old when I visited my Aunt in San Francisco. She was a designer out there and that was my first exposure to "designed" space.
  • Describe your design philosophy:
  • We all try and stick to the The Zimmerman Design philosophy of design, and that is to enhance the human environment with inspired, creative and rational design, which respects the past while revealing the potential of the future.
  • What is your best advice for someone looking for an interior designer?
  • Look at their work of the designer you are considering. If you like the designs they have produced, get in touch with a client who has worked with, or is working with the designer. Basing your pick on the information you gather should steer you in the right direction..
  • How have you been involved in the WI Chapter ASID?
  • I've been on the Website committee since 2002 and regularly attend ASID sponsored events for fun.
  • What design awards have you received?
  • The following projects that I have worked on were all given design awards by ASID.

  • Do you have any interesting hobbies?
  • I ride and maintain a vintage (1971) Honda motorcycle.

  • Design a summer cottage to and live in for half the year!
